Principal
paddles entire senior class
In 2002
Timpson High School Principal Mr Robert Cousins paddled the
entire senior class, eight boys and eight girls, for a violation
of school rules.
The group drove
through the school car park during their first period class on
homecoming day. A tradition, said they. A violation of school
rules, said Mr Cousins, who summoned them all to his office and
spanked every one of their backsides with a wooden paddle.
Corporal
punishment in schools in Texas is nothing unusual, and is know to
be supported by the overwhelming majority of parents.
One parent who didn`t
approve however was Mr Daryl Pate, who`s daughter Connie (right)
had a bruised backside as a result of the spanking.
Mr Pate filed a
complaint, but Mr Cousins actions were unanimously backed by the
Timpson ISD Board of Trustees.
Teachers who
administer corporal punishment are well protected by Texan law
and are supported in the overwhelming majority of complaint
cases.
