Canings at Rodney
School
Pictured Above/Left - Miss Joan Thomas, the
founder of Rodney School, with four girls she`s
allegedly had to cane. Left to Right -

Adele Kirkman who got three strokes of the
cane said: `I had the choice of being gated for three weekends or
getting the cane - I just decided the cane would be quicker. If
you have done something wrong you should be punished for it.`
Nicola Whiteley who received six strokes of
the cane said: `I had to agree I had been in the wrong.`
Pictured Right - The Rodney School cane,
photographed in the Head`s study. For many years Miss Thomas got
to the bottom of unruly girls` behaviour with this subtle piece
of bamboo. The senior male teacher caned the boys.
