Gillian Barker - 1956
Miss Ames - Does anyone remember

me the cane because she caught me smoking in the girls
toilets!!!! I have now given up!! I also remember Mr.

brown squeeky shoes!!!
Christine Sylvester - 1964
Miss Burchill - The only time that I received corporal
punishment was from Miss Burchill...for reading comics in
assembly...a good thwack across the hand with the biggest ruler
that I had ever seen. A couple of years later, when I was Head
Girl, she made a passing comment on the 'event' but never
mentioned it again....Oh happy days!!!
Mill Chase Community School,
Hampshire
Marilyn Whillians - 1970
Ms Henwood - The most awesome scary
teacher ever to grace the halls of Mill Chase. Within a month or
two of starting this wonderful establishment I received my first
(of many) order marks. Whereupon I was summoned to Miss Henwood's
room, she was the head of Winchester at the time, I was soundly
thrashed with a piece of 4 By 2. I would like to say I learned a
lesson but unfortunately, I most certainly did not. The only
thing I can add to this is that once I had been punished, I did
eventually become good friends with her and also admired her very
much as a teacher.
Middlewich High, Chesire
Jennifer Ashley - 1959
Miss Walton - I remember Miss
Walton, I did not realize she stayed around for such a long time.
I was talking in class and was sent to the headmistress by her
and got the cane. I still liked her though. She used to live at
Cranage and ride her bike to Byley where I lived, and caught the
school bus with us kids. Those were the days.

my desk during maths with Mrs.Holroyd(?). I left to move to
Aldershot. Anyone remember Leslie Beggs?
Pauline Taylor - 1963
Memories - Miss Pritchard used to
frighten me. Did you all know they have now pulled down our old

where we went to school. My memories of Marlborough were getting
the cane for reading Lady Chatterley's Lover, always being late
for class and generally getting into trouble.
Linda Tolmie - 1966
Miss Tweed - I had a lot of respect

same as when they went!.

Shirley Hall - 1974
Mr Downs, Science Teacher - At
least 7ft tall, Joe 90 specs and size 12 feet of which he kept a
size 12 plimsole in his desk drawer for disciplinary measures. I
once tossed it out of the upstairs window in the science dept
whilst he was out of the room - as I was one of its recipients -
someone grassed on me and he made me fetch it and then whacked my
backside with it six times....ouch - the memory.

Strong, and comedian/actress Jennifer Saunders.
New Moston County, Manchester
Lynda Birks - 1962
Class of 62 - Does anyone remember
Carol Seddon or the letch of the year who was Bill Ramsley? I
can`t say that my memories of New Moston Secondary were happy

left!

sons, also another teacher. I remember being spanked with my

tempered chap, Mr Alexander? Needless to say myself and fellow
rebels of that class promptly got the belt!!
Penilee, Glasgow
Margaret Cameron - 1962
Miss McDonald - She used to belt me
and send me to the toilets to wash the muck off my eyelashes, she
would not believe I was not wearing make up. Her class (for
English) was behind the stage. She had a habit of leaving her
cigarettes in the loo (situated in the same area) which I pinched
and hid in my knickers, shared them with my friends. I used to
pinch her belts too - got fed up being walloped by them. Hid them
behind the cupboard in Miss Crumbs music room at least 6 of them.
Isobel Stewart - 1968
Mr Nelson - Indeed great with the
belt, duster, chalk and anything else he could use as an
unsuspected flying missile. Trouble was you could neither rely on
his aim or the fact he had hand picked the right person to be on
the receiving end of the three fingered belt! and then you got
belted at home for getting the belt!!!!

wearing plasters on his neck, dont know why!! I remember him
hitting me on the backside with a piece of wood (part of a desk).

Peckham Manor, Peckham,
London

certainly the first one to give me the cane.

Mr Burrell was my form teacher
from 1958-60. Remember him having a body like an upsidedown

and went flying across the newly polished floor breaking one of
her legs, oops. We ran out of the school as we were terrified of
getting the cane.

The Cane - Yes I do remember the
cane! Rachel Cooper and I got it, the rest of Kenny dorm got the

I particularly remember how Miss Thomas used to go and select
which cane to use, and then before each strike used to jump (what
seemed like) 3ft in the air! and if you made a sound or moved she
used to give you another one. Luckily I only got three, poor
Rachel got six.

minds. Ace topical fish tank in class. Taught 1A and then 2A. Not
adverse to corporal punishment.

Mr Evans - I joined in Mr Evans'

the school went downhill after that! I remember being in Mrs
Wooller's class. Once a week Mr Evans would come and read to us.
We were all so terrified of his canes that we sat in perfect
