Tales of the Unexpected: Galloping Foxley (UK 1980)

Chilling tale based on real life experiences of author Roald Dahl.

The episode starts with the great man describing his days at a strict English public school in the 1920s, and the regime of prefects, fagging, spanking, caning.

The story is based around an aging William Perkins (John Mills) who thinks that the gentlemen sitting opposite him each day on the train to work is one Galloping Foxley, so called because of his reputation for taking a run-up when administering the cane, the man who`d treated him so harshly all them years ago as a boy.

Flashbacks are shown of Perkins as Foxley`s young fag, including the impossible tasks he was set and a totally unjust administering of corporal punishment by caning.

Perkins senior meanwhile decides whether or not he should confront his former tormentor - or so he thinks.

Spooky little story with a real twist in the tale.
