"Theron's mother, Gerda, a sinewy woman from whom
Theron got her beautiful hands and magnetic eyes, accidentally
knocked her daughter in the head with a shovel when she was 2,
giving her a scar, and spanked her when she was disrespectful. To
this day mother and daughter shake their heads over the soft
American attitude toward spanking. "I got spanked hard on
