Alice Beer - During
a debate on smacking on The Heaven and Earth Show, BBC TV, July
4th 2004, co-presenter Alice Beer said: "We have an E-Mail
from somedody called Ivan - not my father I hope (laughs) - and
he says he raised his children with occasional smacks to
discipline them - goodness, it is my father (laughs)"
Adriana Sklenarikova - In a
newspaper feature about the Czech model her mother Zlata was
talking about Adriana`s rise to success. Reffering to her
childhood she said: "Her father was extremely strict with
her and occasionally I slapped her if she was naughty."
Barbara
Streisand - In a book about the American
singer/actress called, The Woman and the Legend, it was mentioned
that she was physically chastised by her mother and her brother
while growing up, it stated she was given a whack when-ever or
where-ever she needed it.
Cleo Rocos - In a biographical book
about herself and her relationship with TV and Radio comedian,
Kenny Everett, the British TV celebrity talks about her
upbringing in various countrys. She mentions how her father was
strict with discipline and how she moved around from school to
school. She particularly talks about a very strict convent school
she attended and how the nuns would use various `Torturous`
punishments for bad behaviour. She explains how she was made to
hold out a clenched fist in front of an entire class and had it
whacked with a plastic ruler `for some time and with some vigour`
by a nun because she threw her hat out of a window to see how it
would glide. She doesn`t explain any other punishments that were
used, but one of my site contributors recalls a newspaper article
about her and she mentions being caned across the backside at
convent school. Cleo goes on to explain in the book that she was
eventually expelled from the convent school, `Hooray,` was her
reaction to that.
Dani Behr
- In The Sunday Times Magazine, 9th March 2003, the British TV
presenter said of her father Michael - "I was a daddy`s girl
through and through. I was so naughty, I deserved every whack I
got".
Dolly Parton
- This is not a biographical piece of info about the American
singer/actress but I read in a magazine this piece of info taken
from an article about Dolly. - Dolly Parton told the reporter
that her father hated make-up and every time she was found with
make-up on it was off to the woodshed where she had to bare her
backside and bend over for her father to whip her with a belt.
She said: "It hurt terribly but I gritted my teeth as I went
through it again and again. When you were in your early teens a
pair of red lips were more important than a burning
backside."
Emma Bunton
- In a profile about the English singer on the website, Celebrity
Wonder, it was mentioned that she was taken across her mother`s
lap and spanked, age 13, for swearing. (SF&R Comment)
Celebrity Wonder appears to be a serious website unrelated to
spanking, but I`m not sure if this reference comes from them or
contributed by a site visitor.
Emma Noble
- In an interview with Hello Magazine, the British TV
hostess/model was asked, what did you want to be when you were a
little girl? and she replied: "When I was about seven years
old I wanted to be an actress and I would beg my mum and dad to
take me to the pictures and to the theatre. I sort of went off it
when I became a teenager - I think school kind of beat it out of
me."
Emma
Chambers - In a magazine article the British actress
spoke of her time at a strict boarding school. she said: "I
was 9 or 10 and, because it wasn`t brilliant at home, it was the
best place for me. But I detested my prep school. In fact, I
think I have blanked out a lot of my memories because I was so
distraught about having left my mother, and it was the most
horrendous place. It was the kind of place where they beat you.
Emm
Gryner - In an article about the Canadian
singer/musician on Access All Areas Online, Dec02/Jan03, it
mentioned, A childhood spent being chased around the house by a
mother wielding a spanking stick (actually a paint stick from
Beaver Lumber) likely contributed to the good head Emm carries on
her shoulders.
Fiona Phillips - In the
summer of 2001, GMTV ran a daily slot called `Back to School`
where each GMTV presenter would visit their old school and relive
some memories. During the discussion after John Stapleton`s
nostalgia trip to his old grammar school, where he recalled
frequent canings in the Headmaster`s study, Eamonn Holmes said:
"In those days if you told your parents you were slapped or
caned at school they`d just say you must`ve deserved it,"
and Fiona, who was slippered at school said: "They`d hit you
again."
Gloria
Hunniford - The Irish TV presenter recalling her
childhood in her biography, mentions that her sister always
wanted to be a teacher and treasured a blackboard and cane she
recieved as a gift. She remembers her sister practising her
teaching on her by setting her work and asking her questions,
which if she got wrong would get a wrap on her knuckles with the
cane. She also recalls her schooldays and a particular teacher
who would ask quick maths questions to anyone who arrived late
for class. Anyone who got a question wrong or was too slow in
answering would be taken over her knee for a spanking, Gloria
said that her sister`s teaching had prepared her well and often
saved her from getting spanked.
Hillary Clinton
- In an article in the UK`s Daily Mail newspaper the following
was mentioned. - Growing up in prosperious park ridge, north-west
of Chicago, her father was a doctrinaire, no-nonsense,
up-by-the-bootstraps republican, who drilled his daughter to
study the stock market reports in the Chicago tribune and
believed in corporal punishment.
Joanna Lumley
- The British actress was `apparantly` caned at school for
skipping classes according to an article on school truancy in The
Birmingham Post, October 26 2001.
The following is a
paragraph from the article.
If Government figures
are to be believed, 50,000 children regularly play truant.
Indeed skipping lessons, or 'bunking off', has long been a
tradition in schools. Rolling Stones star Keith Richards was
expelled for truancy at 15, actress Joanna Lumley was apparently
caned for skipping classes and rap legend Eminem failed ninth
grade for 'bunking off'. Even the German composer Wagner was a
truant.
J.K. Rowling - In a biography
about the best selling British Writer of the World famous Harry
Potter books, it was mentioned that she had attended a secondary
school in the 1970`s that used corporal punishment, notably the
cane. Mr John Nettleship, Rowling`s physics master at Wyedean
Comprehensive, described school headmaster, Mr Ken Smith, as the
man who had reintroduced corporal punishment into the school, and
as a "stern man with a cane". Mr Nettleship, nicknamed
`stinger` by his pupils, also describes how he would ask his
class pupils snap questions, and told how he would specifically
pick on Joanne, in a nice way, recognising that she was one of
the brighter pupils in the class. Mr Nettleship explained:
"Back in the 70`s it was spare the rod and spoil the
child". The book also mentions that Rowling would dread Mr
Nettleship`s double physics lesson, but stops short of directly
saying whether she had received any corporal punishment herself.
Jennifer
Capriati - In an article in the Daily Mail, it
mentioned that the American tennis star`s father, Stefano, would
chastise her when she lost matches, and after a complaint about
her behaviour at school from her headmistress her father promised
stricter discipline.
Jodie Foster
- In a book about the American actress called, Foster Child,
written by her brother Buddy Foster, it was mentioned that their
mother smacked them with her hand as well as administering an
`occasional strap across the butt.`
Julie Walters
- In an article in The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, August 17,
2003, the British actress recalling the nuns during her time at
convent school, said: "They really whacked me."
*
Kelly Chen
- In a posting on the asianfanatics website forum
(http://asianfanatics.net/forum/) there is a mention in a news
item posting that the Chinese Actress had been caned by her
father growing up.
Forum Post
News:
While at yesterday's radio interview at Commercial Radio, Kelly
had mentioned that she hopes to become a mother before reaching
40. She will first have one child and pregnancy is really not as
bad as she had initially thought, she might consider having a
limit of three children. Kelly's way of teaching her kids will
also not be as strict as that of her father. She recalled getting
caned once for not doing her homework.
Lisa Marie
Presley - I once read a small article in a newspaper
that the daughter of the legendary Elvis Presley was caught by
her then husband Michael Jackson talking on the telephone to an
ex-boyfriend about a spanking game she enjoyed.
Liza Goddard
- In an article in The Express Newspaper, the British actress
told how she was "Whacked Ferociously" at her Catholic
School by the priests and nuns for not going to church on Sunday.
Loretta Lynn
- I have not read the American country singer`s biography but I
read this in a magazine. - In her biography Loretta Lynn tells
the story of when she got the paddle at school seven times in one
day.
Marilyn Monroe
- In a book drawn in cartoon form, which is supposed to be a
biographical account of the American actress` life, it mentioned
that as a youngster when she was very bad she would get the razor
strop, and there was a drawing of her bending over a chair with
her backside bared.
Mary Pierce
- I remember reading a couple of articles about the french tennis
star just before Wimbledon 94, and at the time the split with her
father and ex-trainer was getting a lot of publicity. It was
mentioned that he used to beat her even as an adult when she
wasn`t performing well enough in training. Mary not only fired
her father but had him banned from attending her matches. This is
listed as a snip of info because, beat, beaten or beating, may or
may not be connected to spanking, although I have had two site
contributors telling me that they heard she used to get spanked.
Madonna
- In a Daily Mail article the following paragraph was featured. -
At her school, run by strict Catholic nuns, Madonna`s rebellious
instincts were a source of friction. "They`d smack you
around, for sure," she has said. "It was an environment
of fear."
In a
biographical book about Madonna it stated - Constantly, she was
chastised by the nuns - at her Catholic School.
In either a
magazine or a newspaper article about the American
singer/actress, she was talking about the making of the movie,
Dick Tracey, which she starred in with Warren Beatty, and she
mentioned that on the film set Beatty would often give her a
sharp smack on her behind if he thought that her acting wasn`t up
to standard, and sometimes it was sufficiently painful to bring
tears to her eyes.
In a
newspaper feature about Madonna the following was mentioned
regarding her relationship with Warren Beatty. - To an associate,
Madonna further confided about her private life with Beatty.
`He`s into lesbianism,` she said, `Just as he`s into all aspects
of sexuality. `This is why he`s so perfect for me. He has no
restrictions. He says to me: "If you misbehave, I`ll just
have to spank you." I love that. Everything to him is living
out his sexual fantasies.
In a book
called, Glamour Blondes, by David Evans, reffering to Madonna`s
childhood it stated. - Madonna`s was a childhood of `Got to`,
`Should`, and `Must`. Domestic discipline was bolstered by the
nuns at St. Andrews where the Ciccones were educated.
Melanie Brown
- During an interview on a daily chat show, the British singer
said she used to "get a crack" from her mother when she
misbehaved.
#
Baroness Margaret Thatcher -
It appears the former British Prime Minister may have been caned
at school, and on numerous occasions. In an article about the
Baroness, The Daily Mail, March 22 2002, it was mentioned that in
1986 she underwent an operation for a condition known as
dupuytren's contracture, which was clawing the little finger of
her right hand towards the palm. Experts say this condition can
result from too much hand-shaking, or even too much caning on the
hand at school.
Nadia Sawalha
- On a daytime TV show, on the subject of smacking, the British
TV presenter/actress said she was smacked by her mother during
childhood.
Nicki Kelly
- On the subject of spanking on a late night sex/fetish programme
on the UK Living channel on Cable TV (UK), the British actress,
best known for her role in 1980`s comedy series Hi-De-Hi,
expressed no interest in spanking as a fetish, and while being
shown some canes said: "You couldn`t do it to me, well not
now anyway." Suggesting with that comment that she had been
spanked before, but not for the fun of it.
Patti Davis -
The American actress` father, former American President Ronald
Reagan, suggested in an interview before his reelection in 1984
that his daughter deserved a spanking for her views on
relationships and marriage, quite possibly hinting that he`d
raised her that way.
The following is a paragraph from
the article by Tom Plate on the Korean Times website.
A few months before his 1984
landslide reelection, interviewing him in the Oval Office for the
national magazine that I then edited, I ran out of prepared
questions before the president ran out of time. So, fumbling, I
came up with a few on the spot, including one about his daughter
Pattis unexpected declamation that men and women ought to
live together before marriage. The president, licking his
culturally conservative chops, hit that one out of the park.
I only regret, he said, his head cocked, that
spanking is out of fashion now. Boom! A few months later,
voters awarded him 49 states.
Ruby Wax
- I remember reading an article in a magazine about the American
TV celebrity, and in the introduction paragraph it was mentioned
that when she was growing up at home with her parents in America
she used to get belted.
Sara Cox
- In a magazine article the British model/radio presenter
suggested she was spanked by her boyfriend. When asked the
question what is your most valued possession? she replied
"Leeroy. Actually you`d better not write that. He`ll put me
over his knee."
Sandi Toksvig
- The British based Danish TV personality attended a boarding
school in Guildford Surrey, England, which used corporal
punishment. During a debate on the subject on BBC TV`s Question
Time she commented: "Do they still do it at boarding school?
they used to."
Shirley Anne Field
- In the British actress` autobiography she mentioned that she
had attended a school that used the slipper and the cane. The
book stated the following.
If you misbehaved,
there was a choice of punishments given. you could either do a
chore, such as cardinalling the bathroom floor with a sticky red
polish - which often stuck more to you than to the floor - or you
could be locked in the coal cellar for an hour. But that was for
the first offence only. A second infraction and you got the
slipper on your behind. The third time and sister nancy went for
the cane. I never found out why, but for some reason, she kept
the cane stored up inside the chimney.
Shirley
Strong - The British former international hurdler
and Olympic silver medalist attended the Northwich County Grammar
School for Girls in the 1970`s at the time Miss Janet Dines - who
was known to be handy with the cane - was the school`s
Headmistress. It is known that Shirley was expelled by Miss Dines
for truanting, but from what is known of Miss Dines she`d caned
other girls at the school for this and other misdemeanours. So is
it likely she`d have expelled Shirley without having previously
administered the cane?
Sharon Stone
- In a biography about the American actress called, Naked
Instinct, it was mentioned that when she was growing up her
father was very strict and ruled with `A whip and a chair`. There
was also a mention later in the book that at school she payed
regular visits to the principal`s study. And in another book
called, The Sharon Stone Story, her sister Kelly mentions that
when their father got mad he really got mad and he believed in
spare the rod and spoil the child. She also commented that when
they knew they were going to get a spanking they would go and try
putting magazines or books down their pants.
Steffi Graf - In,
Total Sport Magazine, there was a feature about the great German
tennis player, and it mentioned that her father would reward her
when she did well and punish her when she didn`t, mentioning that
he used `The carrott and the stick` system. It said for doing
well he would dangle a carrott and for not doing well he would
use the stick.
Sylvia Syms
- In an old film review magazine that i came across there was a
page titled `Men: Beat Your Wives`. In the article the British
actress explains that she thinks that men should beat their wives
to gain their respect and love, she was asked in the article if
she had personal expirience of this from her marriage, and she
said: "Well, i have a few bruises, but i`d rather not show
you where."
Sylvia
Kristel - In a magazine article which featured
various celebrities who had experienced spanking as youngsters,
there was a paragraph which mentioned that the Dutch actress
attended a school that used corporal punishment and she was
birched on her behind when she misbehaved.
Tara Fitzgerald
- In a newspaper article, it was mentioned that when the British
actress was growing up she used to get the belt when she
misbehaved.
Trinny Woodall - In an
article about the English TV presenter and co-host Susannah
Constantine in the Independant on Sunday, 22/12/02, the following
paragraph featured. Trinny, 38, ran with the Hugh Grant/ Liz
Hurley/ Henry Dent-Brocklehurst set before marrying. (SF&R Comment)
This "set" were reportedly knicknamed "The
Viles", and allegedly enjoyed nothing better than a good
spanking game where they`d take it in turns to bend over a sofa
and have to guess who is spanking them. I wonder is that why on
the TV series, What Not to Wear, ex boarding school girl Trinny
likes to comment if she feels any of the ladies she and Susannah
are making over has a "very good arse".
Ulrika Jonsson
- In her column in The News of the World, June 27 2004, on the
subject of smacking, the British based Swedish TV presenter
mentioned she was occasionally smacked by her father growing up.
